Applicants must possess any one of the following qualifications from a recognised university:

- Bachelor’s Degree with Economics as a main subject and Statistics as a paper in at least one year.
- Bachelor’s Degree with Commerce as a main subject and Statistics as a paper in at least one year.
- Bachelor’s Degree with Computer Science as a main subject and Statistics as a paper in at least one year.
Candidates with qualifications obtained through distance education must ensure that their degrees are recognised by the relevant statutory authorities.

The selection of candidates will be based on marks obtained in an objective-type written examination conducted either through a Computer-Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) or an OMR-based offline examination. The examination mode will be notified by TGPSC.

The TGPSC MPSO/ ASO written examination consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies and General Abilities, and Statistics at Degree level. Each paper contains 150 questions carrying 150 marks.
