Project and Job Description

The project is titled “Satellite detection and evaluation of phytoplankton size classes during recurring bloom events in coastal waters of the north-western Bay of Bengal.” The SRF will do seasonal water sampling in the Rushikulya Estuary from a country boat or local boat. The role also covers radiometer operation, satellite data analysis, sample analysis, data interpretation and report preparation.

Essential Qualification

• First-class M.Sc. degree in Marine Sciences, Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
• At least two years of relevant research experience after obtaining the qualifying postgraduate degree, supported by documentary evidence.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in:

• Coastal oceanographic field surveys, including water sampling from research vessels or fishing boats.
• Operation of oceanographic instruments, radiometers and in situ water-quality monitoring equipment.
• Laboratory analysis of seawater samples, including nutrients, chlorophyll and phytoplankton.
• Processing and interpretation of satellite ocean-colour data, particularly OCM-3, MODIS, Sentinel-3 or PACE-OCI.
• Scientific data analysis, interpretation and preparation of technical reports or research publications.

Selection Process

Selection is through a walk-in interview at the Department of Marine Sciences, Berhampur University, on 16 November 2026 at 11.00 am. Only candidates who have sent their applications by 14 November may attend.

• Passport size colour photos (3 Nos.)
• Other relevant documents, such as copies of publications (if any), awards and recommendations

Service Conditions

• The position is purely temporary for 01 year. It is co-terminus with the project and/or lasts as long as funds are available.
