The Department of Local Self Government (Swayatt Shasan Vibhag), Government of Rajasthan, Jaipur has released Advertisement No. 01/2026 for direct recruitment to the post of Contractual Safai Karmchari (Sanitation Worker) across 183 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of the state. The recruitment is being conducted under the Rajasthan Contractual Hiring to Civil Posts Rules, 2022, to strengthen the Swachh Bharat Mission and sanitation systems in urban local bodies. A total of 24,752 vacancies have been notified – 24,277 in Non-Scheduled Areas and 475 in Scheduled Areas of the state.

Rajasthan Safai Karmchari Vacancy Details 2026

The vacancy count is ULB-wise (निकायवार) and may increase or decrease as per requirement. Candidates can apply to only one urban local body of their choice among the 183 notified; applying to more than one ULB results in rejection of all applications by that candidate.

Only local/bona fide residents of the Scheduled Area of Rajasthan can apply for posts under the Scheduled Area category, and must clearly mark the “Scheduled Area” column in their online application; candidates who don’t mark this column will not be considered for these posts.

Rajasthan Safai Karmchari Age Limit 2026

As per the Rajasthan Contractual Hiring to Civil Posts Rules, 2022, an applicant must have attained a minimum age of 21 years and must not have exceeded 40 years, as calculated on 1 January 2027 (the first 1 January following the last date of application).

Rajasthan Safai Karmchari Educational Qualification / Eligibility

• The applicant must be a bona fide resident (मूल निवासी) of Rajasthan.
• No specific educational qualification is prescribed for the Safai Karmchari post.
• The applicant must have at least 1 year of experience of sanitation (safai) work in any urban local body of the state. This experience can be continuous for 1 year, or accumulated across separate periods totalling 1 year.
• The 1-year experience certificate must be issued by the concerned urban local body, in the prescribed proforma, and must be issued after 1 August 2026 and before the last date of application (28 September 2026) to be considered valid.
• Candidates must be of good mental and physical health, free of any defect that would hinder efficient discharge of duties; a health certificate from the Chief Medical & Health Officer or a medical jurist of their district of residence is required if selected, and police verification will be conducted on final selection.

Rajasthan Safai Karmchari Selection Process 2026

Selection is made through a lottery system (developed by the Rajasthan Department of Information Technology & Communication) among eligible candidates, category-wise, according to the number of advertised posts in each urban local body, in the following priority order:

• Priority 1: Candidates with 1 year of sanitation experience in the same urban local body they are applying to.
• Priority 2: If posts remain unfilled after Priority 1, candidates with 1 year of sanitation experience in another urban local body within the same district are included in the lottery.
• Priority 3: If posts still remain unfilled, candidates with 1 year of sanitation experience in any urban local body anywhere in the state are included in the lottery.

Candidates must complete a One Time Registration (OTR) on the SSO portal before applying, for which the following registration fee applies. Candidates who have already paid the OTR registration fee previously do not need to pay again.

Horizontal Reservation

Vertical / Category Reservation

• Reservation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Economically Weaker Section candidates follows applicable state government notifications.
• Most Backward Class (Ati Pichhड़ा Varg) candidates get 5% reservation as per state notification dated 13.02.2019.
• Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates get 10% reservation as per state notifications dated 19.02.2019 and 20.10.2019.
• Sahariya Adim Jati candidates of Baran district get reservation benefit only if they clearly mark the relevant column in their application; otherwise they are treated as General category.
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MBC/EWS categories from states other than Rajasthan are treated as General category candidates for this recruitment.

Key Conditions

• Reservation for dependents of regular Urban Local Body employees (serving/retired/deceased) is governed as per applicable company/department rules.
• If suitable and eligible candidates are not available for EWS-reserved posts, those posts will be filled through the normal (General) process as per rules.
• If a candidate has already availed any other concession/rebate (such as an age relaxation) alongside a reservation category fee benefit, they will not be considered for the unreserved fee category.

How to Apply Online for Rajasthan Safai Karmchari Recruitment 2026

1. Visit the Local Self Government Department portal, https://lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/, or the SSO Rajasthan portal, https://sso.rajasthan.gov.in.
2. Log in to the SSO portal and select the Recruitment Portal under Citizen Apps (G2C), then click Apply Now.
3. If not already registered, complete One Time Registration (OTR) by selecting your category (Unreserved/Reserved: EWS/OBC-NC/MBC-NC/SC/ST/SAH), disability status if applicable, and home state, and pay the applicable OTR fee.
4. Once OTR is complete, apply through the SSO portal for the recruitment; information entered during OTR (name, father’s name, date of birth, gender) cannot be changed at this stage.
5. Fill in all required details in the online application form, upload the required documents, capture a live photograph, and upload your scanned signature as per the specified format.
6. Select your preferred urban local body (only one ULB can be selected) and confirm all entered details before final submission.
7. Submit the application and note the Application ID generated after submission – if no Application ID is received, the application has not been successfully submitted (a Preview is not considered a submission).

Other Important Eligibility Conditions

• A candidate can apply to only one urban local body among the 183 notified; applying to more than one ULB will result in rejection of all applications submitted by that candidate.
• Candidates must clearly mark their category (SC/ST/OBC/MBC/EWS) in the designated column at the time of submission; category cannot be changed after the application deadline, and candidates who don’t mark a category will not get any category-related benefit.
• An applicant who has more than one living spouse, or a woman applicant who marries a man who already has a living spouse, is not eligible for appointment unless specifically exempted by the state government.
• A married applicant who accepted dowry at the time of marriage is not eligible for appointment.
• As per Karmik Department notification dated 16.03.2023, an applicant with more than 2 children (as of 1 June 2002 or after) is generally not eligible, subject to specific exceptions listed in the notification (e.g., if the number of children as of 1 June 2002 has not increased since).
• Marriage registration is mandatory for appointment to Rajasthan government service, as per Home Department circular dated 22.05.2006.
• Nationality: the applicant must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) with the intention of permanently settling in India – subject to producing an eligibility certificate from the Government of India’s Home & Justice Department where applicable.
• Monthly honorarium (मानदेय) for the Contractual Safai Karmchari post is ₹7,410, as per the Labour Department notification dated 13 December 2024.
