NIT Rourkela Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online

National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) has announced 2 Junior Research Fellow vacancies on a temporary and contractual basis. Candidates must possess a Post Graduate degree in basic science or a Graduate or Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through National Eligibility Tests like CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, etc., and be below 30 years as on the last date of receipt of applications. The pay is Rs. 37,000 to Rs. 42,000 per month. Total vacancies: 02 (Two) Junior Research Fellow positions across the listed projects. Project Associate (PA) positions will only be considered if JRF candidates are not found suitable.

Who Can Apply

Essential Qualifications:

• Junior Research Fellow (JRF): Post Graduate degree in basic science OR Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following: (a) Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE; (b) Selection process through National Eligibility Examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DBT, DST, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.
• Project Associate – I (PA): Four years Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Agriculture Science / Master’s Degree in Natural or Agriculture Sciences / BVSc / B. Pharm or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine or from a recognized University or equivalent.

Post-wise Qualifications and Desirable Criteria:

Age Limit and Relaxation:

The upper age limit for applying for the award of project position shall be 30 years, which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, PWD, and Female applicants, whereas 3 years in the case of OBCs (Non-creamy layer candidates). Upper age limit shall be reckoned as on the last date of receipt of applications.

Pay and Tenure

Fellowship Structure:

• JRF – (1st and 2nd year): Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA (if applicable)
• JRF – (3rd to 4th year): Rs. 42,000/- per month + HRA (if applicable)
• *PA – (1st to 4th year): Rs. 30,000/- per month + HRA (if applicable)

Shared accommodation shall be provided in the hostel. Engagement is purely on temporary / contractual basis and co-terminus with the completion of the project (13-Oct-2030). Selected candidates are required to register for the Ph.D. programme. PA (Project Associate) will only be considered if JRF is not available.

Selection and Interview

Candidates will be short-listed based on merit and need of the project. Only short-listed candidates will be informed for the Online/Hybrid interview. The interview will be held on 04 November 2026 at 11:00 AM at the department mentioned in Annexure-I / venue at NIT Rourkela.

• Candidates appearing for their final examination are also eligible to apply, but the qualifying degree result must be submitted by 30 November 2026.
• The period of experience in a discipline / area of work shall be counted after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualifications.
• Mere possession of minimum qualification does not guarantee invitation to the interview.
• NIT Rourkela reserves the right to fix higher criteria for short-listing of eligible candidates.
