PMC Vacancy 2026: Post-wise Details

A total of 8 vacancies are available – 1 for Senior Public Health Specialist, 1 for Microbiologist, 1 for Veterinary Officer, 1 for Technical Assistant, 1 for Entomologist, 2 for Technical Officer (IT), and 1 for Data Analyst.

All posts are contractual, for a duration of 11 months and 29 days. The number of posts is subject to change at the discretion of the Pune Mahanagarpalika administration.

PMC Eligibility Criteria and Qualification 2026

1. Senior Public Health Specialist – Eligibility

Candidates must meet either of the following three qualification routes:

• MBBS (recognized by MCI) with MD in PSM/Community Medicine, MD (CHA), or MD (Tropical Medicine), or DNB in Social and Preventive Medicine/Community Medicine.
• MBBS (recognized by MCI) with an EIS (Epidemic Intelligence Service) Training Course Certificate.
• BDS/BAMS/BHMS/BUMS/BPT/B.Sc. in Life Sciences (Nursing, Biology, Microbiology, Developmental Biology and Physiology) with an MPH (Epidemiology) or DPH (Epidemiology); OR a Master in Applied Epidemiology (MAE) plus two years of Public Health experience; OR a PhD in Clinical Sciences, Medical Science, Preventive Medicine, Human Physiology, Pathophysiology or Epidemiology.

Experience required: At least 10 years of field experience, after obtaining the essential qualification, in implementing public health programmes or interventions with a focus on communicable diseases. The candidate must have passed a 100-mark Marathi language paper in SSC and HSC, and must have working command over the Marathi language.

2. Microbiologist – Eligibility

Candidates must meet either of the following:

• MBBS with MD/DNB in Medical Microbiology or Lab Medicine, recognized by MCI/DNB.
• M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology/Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biomedical Sciences with a PhD in the same or related field.

Experience required: At least 3 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory or public health programme, after obtaining the postgraduate degree/PhD.

3. Veterinary Officer – Eligibility

A postgraduate veterinary degree in any one of: Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Epidemiology, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Preventive Medicine, or Veterinary Pathology, along with registration in the Veterinary Council of India or a State Veterinary Council.

Experience required: At least 1 year of post-qualification experience in Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Epidemiology, or Animal Health, along with relevant experience in public health, preferably in disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.

4. Technical Assistant – Eligibility

B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from a recognized university, or B.Sc. in Chemistry/Botany/Zoology/Biotechnology with a DMLT or BMLT. Candidates must hold registration/renewal with the Maharashtra Paramedical Council.

Experience required (essential): At least 2 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory, and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Desirable: work experience in a bacteriology laboratory.

5. Entomologist – Eligibility

M.Sc. in Entomology or Zoology, preferably with a Doctorate (PhD) in Medical Entomology.

Experience required: At least 5 years in entomological investigations related to zoonotic diseases of public health importance during outbreaks, including zoonotic disease surveillance and plague surveillance in India.

6. Technical Officer (IT) – Eligibility

Candidates must meet either of the following:

• A postgraduate degree in IT/Computer Science such as M.Tech, MBA (IT), MCA, or M.Sc. (CS/IT).
• A graduate degree in IT/Computer Science such as B.E., B.Tech, BIT, or BCA.

Experience required: At least 2 years of experience (after a postgraduate degree) in project planning and implementation of Information Technology, or at least 3 years of experience (after a graduate degree) in the same area.

7. Data Analyst – Eligibility

A postgraduate degree in Computer Application or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university, such as M.Sc. in Statistics.

Experience required: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and preferably in statistical software such as SPSS or STATA, along with 5 years of post-postgraduate experience in data analysis or Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) roles.

The salary (suggested maximum monthly remuneration) varies by post and, for some posts, by the qualification route the candidate holds. Full details are given in the post-wise vacancy table above. Selected candidates are not entitled to any allowance other than the fixed remuneration.

PMC Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process

The notification does not describe a written examination. Based on the terms and conditions, the process works as follows:

• Applications submitted with self-attested documents are scrutinized by the Health Department.
• Eligible and ineligible candidates are notified from time to time on the PMC website (https://www.pmc.gov.in).
• A merit list is prepared according to the number of applications received, and selection is made on the basis of qualification and experience; preference is given to candidates with more experience and higher educational qualification, though the final decision rests with the administration.
• The decision of the selection committee is final, and the final merit list remains valid for 1 year.
• Selected candidates are required to execute an agreement on a Rs. 500 bond paper.
