Eligibility Criteria

• Qualification: Degree in Engineering/Technology in Electronics/Electricals/Electronics & Communications/Telecommunication/Computer Science/Information Technology or Master Degree in Computer Applications; Or Master Degree in Physics/Design/Mathematics/Statistics/Electronics/Applied Electronics/Communication Research/Quality Management/Information Technology with 25 years post-qualification experience; Or Master Degree in Technology/Engineering in Electronics/Electricals/Electronics & Communications/Telecommunication/Computer Science with 22 years post-qualification experience; Or Ph.D in any of the above mentioned subjects with 17 years post-qualification experience
• Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in senior management capacity.
• Age limit: Direct Recruitment: 50 years, Deputation: 58 years (as on closing date of receipt of applications)
• Age relaxation: Direct Recruitment 50 years, Deputation 58 years

Other conditions:

• Period of deputation shall normally not exceed 5 years

Who Cannot Apply for NIELIT Recruitment 2026

NIELIT Director General Job Description

• Prepare plans for NIELIT under the overall guidance of the Governing Council and take responsibility for overall management and operation.
• Lead the professional team of NIELIT in the areas of ICT and management, and grant recognition to all eligible institute management bodies for ‘O’, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ level courses; manage the managers of NIELIT centres in ICT and management-related professional teams.
• Interact with leading IT education and training specialists, experts, authorities of education, industry and government.
• Develop new education and training programmes in emerging areas of ICT for implementation in the informal sector, in addition to preparing the society’s five-year plans, annual plans and budgets.
• Exercise executive and financial powers vested in the post under the bye-laws or delegated by the Governing Council.
• Act as the Member Secretary of the Governing Council.
