Selection is made by the District Selection Committee (DSC) on the following basis:

• Selection is done on merit, based on aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination, as per educational guidelines.
• The Rule of Reservation is followed as per Government Orders in force from time to time.
• Presidential Order 2018 is followed.
• A roster is followed for posts with more than one vacancy; the existing roster is continued.
• Total marks are 100: 90 marks for marks obtained in the qualifying examination, and 10 marks for age (0.5 mark per completed year of age from 18 years, up to a maximum of 10 marks).
• A merit list is prepared and displayed on the official website of the District Collector, for transparency and for inviting objections.
• A selection list is then prepared from the finalized merit list, following the Rule of Reservation and Presidential Orders.
• Selected candidates must maintain their assigned headquarters.
• Positions are initially filled for one year and are liable to be terminated earlier when regular candidates report for duty, on grounds of poor performance, or for other reasons the Chairman of the District Health Society and District Collector deem fit.
