Age Limit

• Teaching faculty: 22 to 60 years
• Principal: 30 to 65 years

Principal, Arts & Science College

Essential: Ph.D in regular mode (as per UGC norms) in Arts/ Science/ Commerce/ Management/ Vocational/ Education Discipline.

Desirable (any one):

• 2 year experience as principal in a Govt. recognized College/Institution
• 8 year combined experience as Associate Professor/Professor in a Govt. recognized College/Institution
• 12 year combined experience as Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in a Govt. recognized College/Institution

Assistant Professor: Government College of Arts & Science

Desirable for most of these posts: 1 to 5 years of teaching experience in a relevant post in a Govt. recognized College/Institution, and a Ph.D in the subject concerned (as per UGC norms). Three posts differ:

• Food Processing and Preservation Technology: preference for Ph.D. candidates and for teaching/industrial experience, publications, and expertise in food processing, preservation, quality assurance and food product development.
• BBA Tourism: preference for PhD candidates with teaching and industrial experience in the relevant field (as per UGC norms).
• Computer Science: Ph.D. in relevant subject.

Fields of specialization listed for Food Processing and Preservation Technology are Food Processing, Food Preservation, Food Engineering, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, Food Packaging, Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Bakery Technology, Fruit & Vegetable Processing, Dairy Technology, Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals.

Rules on Qualifications

• Candidates must hold the prescribed qualifications at the time of submitting the online application.
• A Ph.D holder is eligible for exemption from UGC-NET if the degree was obtained before the cut-off date stipulated by the UGC and all other mandatory UGC conditions are fulfilled.
• Ph.D degrees are valid only if awarded under the relevant UGC regulations, including the requirements on mode of study.
• Only work experience in the corresponding post at institutions recognized by the Government is considered.
• Relaxation in qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC/other categories applies under Government of India norms.
• Eligibility for all posts follows the rules of the Government of India, UGC, NCTE, AICTE, the concerned University and other statutory and regulatory bodies, as amended from time to time.

Selection Process

Only shortlisted candidates are invited to the interview, which is held in person or online as the Department decides. A merit/rank list is then published, and selected candidates must submit their willingness to accept the post immediately after its publication.

Weightage for Principal

One point is awarded for every 12 months of relevant experience, up to a maximum of five points. Experience certificates without valid and verifiable details of the issuing authority are rejected.

Interview Rules

• The venue for the physical interview is the Directorate of Education, Kavaratti, Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
• Online candidates get the interview link at the e-mail ID given in their application, and must stay in the session until the Interview Board permits them to leave.
• The Department is not responsible for a delayed link or for poor connectivity or technical issues at the candidate’s end.
• Candidates attend in the mode opted for in the application and approved by the Department.
• Failing to attend at the scheduled time and in the prescribed mode means no further opportunity.

Service Conditions

• The engagement is purely contractual and subject to the requirements of the Department.
• The nature, duration and place of engagement are decided at the discretion of the Department.
• Duties include teaching, academic administration, hostel-related responsibilities and any other duties assigned by the Department of Education.
• Faculty teach core subjects as well as supplementary and interdisciplinary subjects included under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
• Services may be deployed at any Higher Educational Institution in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
• Remuneration and other terms stipulated in the contract agreement apply.
• The engagement order is cancelled if a selected candidate fails to report for duty within the time stipulated by the Department.
• The Department may cancel the notification or modify any of its provisions, in accordance with the applicable rules.
