“B.T.” refers to Backward Tribe categories under Nagaland’s reservation policy. In the absence of PwBD candidates, the 3 backlog vacancies of 2021 shall be de-reserved.

NPSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfil the following eligibility conditions to apply for all Item Nos. 1 to 12 under NPSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026.

Educational Qualification Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/Institution
Additional Qualification 6 (six) months Diploma in Computer Operation
Shorthand Requirement 1 (one) year course in Shorthand with a speed of 80 words per minute

Only those candidates who possess the requisite qualification acquired from a recognized university/institution at the time of applying are eligible. The required shorthand speed (w.p.m.) must be mentioned either on the mark sheet or in the completion certificate.

NPSC Stenographer Age Limit

Age is reckoned as on 01.01.2026.

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 32 years

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST candidates: Upper age limit relaxable by 5 years
  • Serving Government employees: Age concession equal to the number of years in service, up to a maximum of 5 years

NPSC Stenographer Reservation Policy

  • 100% of the vacancies are reserved for candidates belonging to (a) Any Naga Tribe, (b) Kuki, (c) Kachari, (d) Garo, and (e) Mikir, provided such persons are Indigenous Inhabitants of the State of Nagaland.
  • Implementation of reservation for Backward Tribes in the state is in accordance with Notification No. RCBT-5/87(pt-II) dated 14 April 2011, 15 June 2012 & 23 March 2022.
  • Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disability, wherever applicable as sanctioned by the user department, is in accordance with Government Notification No. AR-3/Gen-9/97 dated 13 August 2020, No. AR-8/NSSB-9/2022/57 dated 5 May 2022, and No. AR-3/Gen-9/97(Vol-II) dated 8 December 2025.
  • For availing reservation under Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (fresh vacancies), Form C, Form D and Form E are mandated as per Notification No. AR-3/GEN-9/97 dated 13 August 2020.

How to Apply for NPSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the official NPSC portal: https://npsc.nagaland.gov.in
  2. Complete OTR (One Time Registration), available from noon of 21.08.2026 till noon of 02.09.2026 (free of cost) – only eligible candidates for the Stenographer Exam-2026 should register.
  3. After completing OTR, submit the online application form for the Stenographer post between noon of 21.08.2026 and noon of 03.09.2026.
  4. Government employees must upload a “No Objection Certificate” while submitting the online application.
  5. Pay the applicable examination fee (Rs. 300/-), convenience fee (Rs. 25/-), and payment gateway charges online.

Note: Application forms will not be issued from the office of the Commission; applications must be submitted only through the online OTR process on the NPSC portal.

NPSC Stenographer Important Instructions

  • Candidates must produce attested/self-attested photocopies of documents to the Commission as and when called for, including HSLC/Matriculation/Equivalent Admit Card for proof of Date of Birth (no other certificate accepted for age proof).
  • Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate, Scheduled Tribe Certificate, and Backward Tribe Certificate, as relevant and applicable, must be produced.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs) must produce a certificate from a competent medical authority.
  • Proof of educational qualification (mark sheets, pass certificates/provisional pass certificates from matriculation onwards) must be submitted; if not issued, a supporting letter/certificate from the Board/Institute/University is required.
  • All relevant documents/certificates must have been issued by the concerned authority/institution/board/university on or before the last date of submission of the application form.
  • Indigenous Inhabitant, S.C., S.T. & B.T. Certificates should be signed only by a District Authority not below the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner.
  • If it is detected at any stage of recruitment that a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility norms, or has furnished incorrect/false information or suppressed material facts, the candidature shall stand cancelled.
  • The decision of the Commission in all matters regarding eligibility, conduct of examination, other tests, and selection would be final and binding on all candidates; no representation or correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
  • Any issue/complaint must be settled on or before the last date of submission of the application form; no complaints will be entertained thereafter.
  • The date of examination will be notified separately on the Commission’s website.
