High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Sutarwadi, Pune, one of the premier R&D establishments under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, has invited applications from meritorious Indian nationals for One Year Apprentice Training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprentice Rules, 1992. A total of 50 Graduate Apprentice vacancies are notified across Engineering, Science, Arts, Commerce, Library Science, and Business Administration streams. Only offline applications are accepted, and the last date for receipt of applications is 28 August 2026. HEMRL Apprentice Eligibility Criteria

  • Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must hold the educational qualification specified in the vacancy table from a recognised Board/University.
  • Only candidates who have passed the qualifying examination in the last five years (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026) are eligible.
  • Applications of candidates who have appeared in the qualifying examination but whose results have not been declared/available as on the last date of application submission are not eligible.
  • Candidates with a higher qualification than that specified for the post are not eligible.
  • Only candidates who completed the qualifying examination as regular candidates are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training, are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under any organisation, or have job experience of one year or more after attaining the essential qualification are not eligible.
  • PwBD candidates are eligible only for the designated trades as per Apprenticeship Rules, 1992.
  • Candidates must ensure they fulfil all eligibility conditions for the apprenticeship training.

HEMRL Apprentice Selection Process

  • Depending on the vacancies available in various categories and disciplines, candidates will be shortlisted based on academic merit, written test, interview, walk-in interview, or a combination of these, subject to satisfactory document verification.
  • HEMRL reserves the right to adopt its own shortlisting method and is not obliged to shortlist all candidates who meet the minimum requirement; meeting the requirements laid down in the advertisement does not by itself qualify a candidate for selection.
  • The Director, HEMRL, reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of vacancies, or to withdraw the advertisement or cancel the selection process, without assigning any reason.
  • Reservations will be applied as per the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprentice Rules, 1992.
  • Canvassing or influencing the selection process in any form will lead to disqualification of the candidate.
  • Selection is deemed final only after the online approval of the apprenticeship contract by the competent authority.

How to Apply for HEMRL Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27

  1. Register on the NATS 2.0 portal.
  2. Download and fill the application form available at drdo.gov.in/drdo/en/offerings/vacancies.
  3. Mention marks obtained in the qualifying examination in percentage; if your marksheet shows CGPA, convert it to percentage as per your university’s norms (this will be verified during document verification).
  4. Only offline applications are accepted; online-only submissions will not be considered.

HEMRL Apprentice Documents Required

At the Time of Document Verification

Candidates must present originals along with one set of self-attested photocopies of:

  • Ink-signed printout of the application
  • Signed copy of the NATS 2.0 profile
  • Mark sheets and certificates (original or provisional) from 10th standard to the minimum educational qualification specified for apprenticeship (12th/B.Sc/B.E/B.Tech/LibSc/B.Com/B.A/BBA/ITI, as applicable)
  • Aadhaar Card/Photo ID proof and address proof
  • Two recent passport-size colour photographs (6×7)
  • SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), PwBD, and EWS certificates issued by the competent authority, if applicable

At the Time of Joining

Selected candidates must present originals along with one set of self-attested photocopies of:

  • Valid Police Verification Certificate from their place of last residence and permanent address
  • Certificate of Physical Fitness in the prescribed format, issued by an authorised Medical Officer of a Government Hospital; final selection depends on meeting the health standards prescribed in the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprentice Rules, 1992
  • Undertaking for adherence to the Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923
  • Undertaking that the apprentice will follow IT Rules and Regulations applicable to the Ministry of Defence
  • Aadhaar-seeded bank account details for DBT stipend (passbook front page/cancelled cheque)
  • Three recent passport-size colour photographs
  • Any other documents communicated to the candidate at the time of selection/joining

HEMRL Apprentice Important Instructions

  • The selected candidate must execute a contract for a one-year training period as per the Apprentices Act, 1961, and Apprentice Rules, 1992.
  • The training period of one year commences from the date of execution of the apprenticeship contract.
  • Selected candidates will be informed via email with further joining instructions; no correspondence will be entertained with candidates not selected for training.
  • If a candidate does not report by the scheduled date, it will be assumed that they are not interested, and their candidature may be forfeited without further communication.
  • If a candidate does not fulfil any eligibility condition, or their statements/documents are found false or forged, their candidature will be disqualified/cancelled immediately.
  • No employment (permanent/temporary/contractual) is offered at HEMRL or DRDO to any apprentice after completion of apprenticeship training, and no apprentice can claim the same.
  • No TA/DA, accommodation, transport, or medical facilities will be provided at any stage of the selection process or during training.
  • Selected candidates must abide by the rules and regulations framed by the Administration from time to time.
