WBPSC Clerkship Reservation
Reservation benefits are admissible to the following categories of West Bengal:
- S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. (non-creamy layer) candidates of West Bengal only. S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. candidates of other States are treated as general candidates.
- PwBD candidates (with disabilities of 40% and above) and Ex-Servicemen.
- Meritorious Sportspersons in the area of International Competition, National Competition, Inter-University Tournament and National Sports/Games for School Education, in the 20 sports listed in the notification (including Athletics, Badminton, Basket Ball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volley Ball, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Rifle Shooting, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Archery).
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates of West Bengal. EWS candidates of other states are treated as general candidates.
The reservation of PwBD (40% and above) will be determined as per Notification No. Labr/85-Emp/EC/1M-01/2025, dated 25.05.2026.
WBPSC Clerkship Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the educational qualification, computer and typing requirement, age limit and nationality conditions given in the notification. The conditions cannot be relaxed except where the advertisement itself provides for it.
WBPSC Clerkship Qualification
The qualification for direct recruitment is as follows:
- Passed the Madhyamik examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
- Elementary knowledge of computer operation, with the ability to type on a computer at 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali.
Candidates must choose the typing option (English or Bengali) at the time of submitting the application. The computer and typing ability is judged only after a candidate qualifies in Part-I and Part-II.
Nationality and Language Requirements
- The candidate must be a citizen of India (natural or by registration), or another national declared eligible by the Government of India. A candidate in the second category needs a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government; such a candidate may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment is made only after the certificate is issued.
- Ability to read, write and speak Bengali is required. This is not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.
- Knowledge of Bengali will be tested for candidates whose mother tongue is other than Bengali or Nepali, at the time of the computer and typing test. The candidature of candidates with average or poor performance in this test is liable to be cancelled.
WBPSC Clerkship Age Limit
The age limit for WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 is not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 01.01.2024. In terms of date of birth, candidates should be born not earlier than 2 January 1979 and not later than 1 January 2006. Only the age recorded in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate is accepted, and the limits apply to all candidates, whether in Government service or not.

WBPSC Clerkship Selection Process
The selection under WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 has two examination stages followed by a computer and typing test.
- Part-I (Objective Type): held first. A limited number of candidates who obtain qualifying marks are allowed to appear in Part-II.
- Part-II (Conventional Type – Written): held on a later date to be notified by the Commission.
- Test of computer operation and typing: judged only for candidates found qualified in Part-I and Part-II.
The final merit list is prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in Part-I and Part-II, provided the candidate qualifies in the computer operation and typing test. A candidate who qualifies for Part-II but does not appear in it will not be considered for the final merit list. The selected candidates also undergo a medical examination and police verification of antecedents before appointment.
The notification does not give the paper-wise marks, number of questions, duration or syllabus. It advises candidates to read the “Scheme and Syllabus” along with the advertisement on the Commission’s website.

The Commission may further relax qualifying marks if a sizeable number of posts in reserved categories remain unfilled.
Negative Marking, Penalty and Tie-Breaking
- There is negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in multiple choice questions.
- In Part-II, 10% of full marks is deducted from a paper if the candidate writes a name, roll number or any identifying mark in the answer script.
- Tie-breaking: higher aggregate marks in English and Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali first, then higher marks in English, then higher age.
WBPSC Clerkship Exam Centres
Preliminary examination centres (with code numbers) are: 11 Kolkata, 12 Baruipur, 13 Diamond Harbour, 14 Barrackpore, 15 Barasat, 16 Howrah, 17 Chinsurah, 18 Burdwan, 19 Durgapur, 20 Medinipur, 21 Tamluk, 22 Bankura, 23 Purulia, 24 Jhargram, 25 Suri, 26 Krishnanagar, 27 Berhampore, 28 Malda, 29 Balurghat, 30 Raigunj, 31 Jalpaiguri, 32 Alipurduar, 33 Coochbehar, 34 Siliguri, 35 Kalimpong and 36 Darjeeling. The Commission may allot an adjacent centre if it cannot accommodate a candidate at the chosen centre.
Only scheduled tribe candidates of Darjeeling district and other candidates of the three hill sub-divisions (Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik and Kurseong) may appear at the Darjeeling centre. All candidates from Kalimpong district may appear at the Kalimpong centre.
How to Apply for WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026
Applications for WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 are accepted online only. Submitting more than one application is strictly forbidden, and such applications are liable to cancellation.
- Visit the official website of the Commission at psc.wb.gov.in.
- Open the Clerkship Examination, 2024 (Advertisement No. 12/2024) application link and complete the online form between 6 October 2026 and 26 October 2026.
- Choose the typing option (English or Bengali) and the order of posting preference (Secretariat Departments, Directorates, or Regional/District offices of one particular District or Kolkata). Filling in the posting option is mandatory.
- Mention one valid Photo ID (Madhyamik certificate bearing photograph, Passport, PAN Card, EPIC/Voter ID, Driving Licence or any other ID issued by the State or Central Government), with its number and issuing authority.
- Candidates claiming EWS/S.C./S.T./O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer), PwBD, Meritorious Sportsperson or Ex-Serviceman status must upload the certificate in PDF format (not more than 100 kb), or the application will not be accepted.
- Pay the fee online (if applicable) by 26 October 2026, 3:30 p.m., and take a printout of the form.
- If a correction is needed, use the Edit Window from 28 October 2026 to 1 November 2026.
WBPSC Clerkship Edit Window
- Applicants can edit some fields once only, within the prescribed period.
- The Edit Window is accessed by logging in to the individual account at psc.wb.gov.in.
- Applicants who want to change their address should first change it in the Profile Section and then use the Edit option.
- Documents required by the advertisement must be uploaded during the Edit Window period only.
- No request for change is entertained after the period ends.
Documents and Certificates Required
- S.C./S.T./O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate from the competent authority of West Bengal, issued on or before the closing date of application. O.B.C. candidates must submit a renewed/revalidated Non-Creamy Layer certificate before the computer operation and typing test.
- PwBD certificate from a Medical Board as per the RPwD Act and Rules. Candidates who opt for a scribe or compensatory time also need the Appendix-I certificate on physical limitation to write.
- Meritorious Sportsperson certificate from the competent authority, with the applicable Form 1/2/3/4, at the time of the computer and typing test.
- Ex-Serviceman certificate from the Army/Air Force/Naval Headquarters showing joining date, period of service and release date.
- EWS Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure C), with a renewed/revalidated EWS certificate submitted before the computer and typing test.
- Original Photo ID, which candidates should also bring to the examination venue.
Important Instructions for Candidates
- An application, once submitted, is final. No change in category claim is entertained after final submission.
- Admission to the examination is provisional, subject to eligibility. A candidate found ineligible at any stage, even after the appointment letter, will have the candidature cancelled.
- Candidates with Benchmark Disabilities who have a limitation in writing may use a scribe, and are allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour on producing a valid Appendix-I certificate.
- Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth and other communication devices are not allowed in the examination premises. Frisking is done at entry points.
- Candidates must carry a valid admit card, and will be admitted only to the venue stated on it.
- Canvassing for support will disqualify a candidate. Giving false information about age, qualification or caste/category can lead to penal action and cancellation of candidature.
- Objections to the Model Answers (MCQ type) must be filed within the time limit specified on the Commission’s website.
- Candidates taking Hindi, Urdu, Nepali or Santali in place of Bengali in Group B of Part-II must pass a departmental examination in Bengali during probation, before confirmation.
