Educational Qualification

10+2 qualified in any stream, or an equivalent examination.

Sports Proficiency – Direct Entry Petty Officer (Sports Entry)

• Should be a medalist at Junior/Senior level representing a State in National competitions, or have represented the country at International level (individual event).
• Should have represented a State or country in National or International competitions at Junior/Senior level (team event).
• Should be a medalist in Khelo India Games & Youth Games, or above.
• A certificate from the respective sports authority (Federation) must accompany the recommendation for final selection.

Sports Proficiency – Direct Entry Chief Petty Officer (Sports Entry)

• Winner of any medal in a World Championship/Asian Championship.
• Winner of any medal in the Asian Games.
• Winner of any medal in the Commonwealth Games (CWG)/World Cup.
• Represented India twice in the Asian Games/Commonwealth Games/World Cup.
• On representing India in the Olympics.

Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Age Limit

Candidates must be between 17½ and 25 years of age as on the date of commencement of the course. Candidates should have been born between 01 September 2001 and 28 February 2009 (both dates inclusive).

Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Physical Standards

Visual Standards

Regulations regarding height relaxation and tattoos are available on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned of wax and tartar removed from their teeth prior to medical examination.

Gender: Any candidate found to have predominant characteristics of the opposite gender, as evidenced on external physical examination, will be rejected as UNFIT. Any candidate who has undergone gender reassignment surgery will be declared UNFIT.

Pregnancy: Any female candidate found to be pregnant will be disqualified and her candidature rejected. A candidate should not have conceived at the time of reporting or till conclusion of ab-initio training; if found pregnant later during training, the candidature shall be rejected.

Candidates declared medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in a previous recruitment for the same entry in the Navy are advised not to apply.

Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Pay & Allowances

• During the initial training period, a stipend of ₹14,600 per month is admissible.
• On successful completion of initial training, candidates are placed in Pay Level 5 (Petty Officers) or Pay Level 6 (Chief Petty Officers).
• Additionally, Military Service Pay (MSP) @ ₹5,200 per month, plus Dearness Allowance (DA) as applicable, is paid.
• Insurance cover (on contribution) of ₹75 lakhs is applicable for all sailors.

Promotion & Perquisites

• Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (equivalent to Subedar Major). Opportunities for promotion to Commissioned Officer also exist for those who perform well, qualify prescribed examinations/selection processes, and meet eligibility conditions stipulated from time to time.
• During the entire training period and thereafter, sailors are given books, reading material, uniform, food, and accommodation free of cost.
• Sailors are entitled to medical treatment, Leave Travel Concession for self and dependants, Group Housing Benefits, Insurance cover, and other privileges. Annual and Casual Leave are admissible as per current regulations. Children’s education and house rent allowances are also admissible. Post-retirement benefits include pension, gratuity, and leave encashment.

Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Training, Discharge & Probation

• Training: Initial training is conducted at INS Chilka, followed by professional training in the allotted trade at various Naval Training Establishments. Branch/Trade is allocated as per the requirement of the Service.
• Discharge as Unsuitable: Sailors are liable to be discharged as UNSUITABLE due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during training. Additionally, DEPO/DECPO entries are liable to be discharged if sports performance does not improve to expected levels in the probationary period of three years.
• Probation: Meritorious sportspersons enrolled as Direct Entry Petty Officer and Chief Petty Officer will be on probation for a period of three years, during which they must meet the following criteria, failing which they will be liable to be discharged from service on completion of three years:
  • DEPO (Sports Entry): Should further improve their level of performance and be able to at least represent the Service team in National Championships.
  • DECPO (Sports Entry): Should have represented the Services team at least twice in three years in National Championship team events; OR should have represented the Services team in National Championships at least twice in three years in individual events, or should have won any medal at least once in a National Championship in three years.
• Initial Engagement: Subject to successful completion of training. The initial engagement is of 15 years.

Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

• Deserving candidates would be called to appear for trials at designated Naval Centres.
• Candidates qualifying trials will undergo medical examination at INS Hamla, Mumbai/INS India, Delhi.
• The Offer of Enrolment will be forwarded to the selected candidates only, which will be strictly determined by requirement in the particular sports discipline and availability of vacancies.
• Requests for change of venue of selection trials will not be entertained. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
• Short-listing criteria will be based on higher sports achievements.
• Call-up letters will be posted to eligible shortlisted candidates, indicating date, time, and place for the selection trial.
• All original certificates and mark sheets must be produced at the time of the selection trial.
• Candidates declared Medically Temporary Unfit in the recruitment medical examination can avail a specialist review from the specified Military Hospital within a maximum period of 21 days – no further review/appeal is permissible.
• Candidates declared Medically Permanent Unfit can appeal for a Specialist opinion at a Military Hospital within 21 days, on payment of ₹40 by Military Receivable Order (MRO) on Government Treasury. A medical fitness certificate other than one from the designated Military Hospital’s specialist opinion will not be considered; no further review/appeal is permissible.
• The select list will be prepared from candidates who qualify in all respects, depending on the available vacancies in the particular sports discipline.
• The candidature of selected candidates is valid for the current batch only.
• All select-listed candidates will be forwarded a Police Verification form along with the Offer of Enrolment, and must submit the same to INS Hamla at the time of enrolment after getting their antecedents verified from the concerned district police authorities. Candidates without a verified police verification report will not be eligible for enrolment.
• No enquiry will be entertained regarding recruitment/enrolment after a period of six months.

How to Apply for Indian Navy Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

1. Download the application form from www.joinindiannavy.gov.in, or prepare it as per the given format on A4-size paper.
2. Fill in the application form completely – only one application form is to be forwarded; candidates who send more than one application for the same entry will be disqualified.
3. Write the type of entry, sports discipline, and achievements clearly on top of the envelope containing the application. The envelope should be of brown colour (Example: “Direct Entry Petty Officer/Chief Petty Officer – 02/2026 KABADDI – NATIONAL LEVEL”).
4. Punch and tie firmly with a strong thread, in sequence, the following self-attested documents to the application: (a) Matriculation Certificate (for DOB verification), (b) 10th Mark Sheet, (c) NCC/Sports Certificate (if applicable), (d) Domicile Certificate, (e) 10+2 Certificate along with mark sheet.
5. Attach two self-addressed envelopes of size 22 x 10 cm, with a ₹10 stamp affixed on one envelope.
6. Submit one additional recent coloured passport-size photograph along with the application, with name and signature on the reverse of the photograph – the background of the photograph should be blue. Computer-generated/digital photographs will not be accepted.
7. Send the application only by Ordinary Post to: The Secretary, Indian Navy Sports Control Board, Naval Headquarters, Ministry of Defence, Nausena Bhawan, Room No. W-016, Delhi Cantt, New Delhi – 110010.
8. Applications received through Speed Post, Registered Post, or Couriers will be rejected.
9. Ensure the application reaches by the closing date – 15.10.2026 (general) or 22.10.2026 (for candidates from North East states, J&K, Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar, and Lakshadweep & Minicoy Island).
