TNPSC Group 2 Eligibility Criteria 2026
TNPSC Group 2 eligibility 2026 is assessed as on the dates given in the notification – age is reckoned as on 01.07.2026, and educational qualification must be held on the date of notification (11.08.2026). Eligibility depends on nationality-neutral factors such as educational qualification, age limit, and (for a few posts) physical/medical standards, knowledge of Tamil, and community/gender-specific restrictions explained below.
Knowledge of Tamil
Candidates must possess adequate knowledge of Tamil as on the date of notification – either by having passed SSLC/HSC/Degree with Tamil as one of the languages, by having studied in Tamil medium, or by having passed the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by TNPSC.
Restrictions on Applying
- Candidates not belonging to SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM who have completed five years or more of government service are not eligible, even if within the age limit.
- Only persons professing the Hindu religion are eligible for Audit Inspector (Post Code 1029), Executive Officer Grade III (Post Code 1654), and Assistant, HR&CE (Post Code 2271).

TNPSC Group 2 selection process 2026 for both Group II and Group IIA Services consists of the following successive stages:
- Common Preliminary Examination: A single objective-type paper (screening test only); marks are not counted for final merit.
- Main Examination: Separate Main Examinations for Group II Services and Group IIA Services. Each Main Examination has two papers – Paper I (Tamil Eligibility Test, qualifying in nature) and Paper II (counted for ranking).
- Onscreen Certificate Verification: Based on Main Examination Paper II marks, candidates are admitted in the ratio of 1:3 (General category) and 1:2 (Reserved categories).
