East Coast Railway (ECoR), through its Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) Bhubaneswar, has released the ECoR GDCE Recruitment 2026 notification (No. ECoR/Pers/RRC-GDCE/2026, dated 07.08.2026) for the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE). This exam fills up 25% of the net Direct Recruitment Quota vacancies in Safety and Non-Safety category posts, spread across 1421 posts including Assistant Loco Pilot, Station Master, Goods Trains Manager, Junior Engineer, Technicians, Junior Clerk cum Typist, and Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector.

Important: ECoR GDCE 2026 is not an open-market recruitment. Only regular and eligible employees of East Coast Railway (including the erstwhile Waltair division/SCoR), excluding RPF/RPSF staff, who currently hold lien in ECoR, can apply. Candidates outside ECoR are not eligible for this notification.

ECoR GDCE Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for ECoR GDCE Recruitment 2026, a candidate must be a regular employee of East Coast Railway (including erstwhile Waltair division/SCoR), excluding RPF/RPSF staff, currently holding lien in ECoR. Employees who have resigned or transferred out of East Coast Railway are not eligible. Employees already in the same grade/pay level as the notified post can apply for GDCE from Non-Safety to Safety posts and Safety to Safety posts; employees in a lower grade/pay level can apply for all notified categories, provided they hold the prescribed educational qualification.

ECoR GDCE Qualification

Educational and technical qualification requirements vary by post, as detailed in Annexure-B of the notification:

Exact designation-wise qualification (all 23 individual post variants, e.g. JE/Civil-Track Machine, Technician-III/Welder/C&W) is listed in Annexure-B of the official notification. ECoR GDCE Age Limit

  • UR candidates: upper age limit 42 years
  • OBC candidates: upper age limit 45 years
  • SC/ST candidates: upper age limit 47 years
  • Age will be reckoned as on 01.01.2027
  • No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates applying against unreserved (UR) vacancies

Selection under ECoR GDCE 2026 follows a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by post-specific additional stages, Document Verification, and Medical Examination:

  • There is negative marking in CBT: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking in CBAT.
  • Minimum qualifying marks in CBT: UR – 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 30%, SC – 30%, ST – 25% (relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved vacancies).
  • Shortlisting for CBAT/Typing Skill Test is done at 8 times the number of vacancies, based on CBT merit.
  • For ALP, final merit uses 50% weightage for CBT and 50% for CBAT. For Station Master, it is 70% CBT and 30% CBAT.
  • Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for Document Verification, based on CBT/CBAT merit.
  • Final appointment is subject to passing the prescribed Medical Fitness Test.

How to Apply for ECoR GDCE Recruitment 2026

Eligible ECoR employees must apply online through the official RRC Bhubaneswar website. A single online application is required even when applying for multiple posts.

ECoR GDCE Apply Online

  1. Visit the official website www.rrcbbs.org.in and click on the ECoR GDCE 2026 application link.
  2. Fill in personal details and bio-data carefully in the online application form.
  3. Upload a recent colour passport-size photograph (35mm x 45mm, JPEG format, up to 100 KB) and a scanned signature (JPEG, 10–40 KB).
  4. Keep scanned self-attested copies of date of birth, educational/technical qualification, caste certificate, and PwBD certificate (as applicable) ready before applying.
  5. Review all entered details carefully, then click the register button – once registered, no changes can be made to the application.
  6. Note the unique application number generated after registration and download/print the filled application in PDF format.
  7. Get the printed application forwarded by the controlling officer and upload the signed, scanned copy under the supporting documents tab (mandatory).
  8. Submit the application well before the closing date of 14.09.2026 to avoid last-minute technical issues.

ECoR GDCE Important Instructions

  • Only regular ECoR employees (excluding RPF/RPSF) with lien in ECoR/erstwhile Waltair division/SCoR are eligible; resigned or transferred-out employees cannot apply.
  • Name, Father’s Name, and Date of Birth must match Matriculation/SSLC records and service records; no subsequent change requests will be entertained.
  • A valid personal mobile number and email ID must be maintained throughout the recruitment process, as all communication is via SMS/email only – no request for change will be entertained after submission.
  • Applications are liable for rejection for reasons including: missing Immediate Supervisor’s certification PDF, incorrect educational qualification, overage, invalid/incorrect photo specifications, signature in block/capital letters, or incomplete application.
  • SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates must produce original caste/OBC-NCL certificates in the prescribed formats (Annexure-C, D, E) at the time of Document Verification; otherwise their candidature will be considered under the UR category if otherwise eligible.
  • There is no separate reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under this notification.
  • Electronic gadgets, wallets, belts, and metallic items are strictly banned inside the exam hall.
  • Any candidate found using unfair means or attempting impersonation will be debarred for life from all RRB/RRC examinations and is liable for legal action.
  • Vacancies are provisional and may increase, decrease, or become nil at any stage as per Railway Administration’s requirements.
