Steel Authority of India Limited’s Salem Steel Plant is engaging one General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) on contract for its 40 bedded main hospital and Occupational Health Service Center (OHSC). The post is reserved for OBC and pays Rs. 90,000 a month, consolidated. Doctors with an MBBS degree and a valid medical registration, aged up to 69 years, can attend the walk-in interview on 20 November 2026 at the HRDC Building, Salem Steel Plant. Age Limit

The upper age limit is 69 years as on the date of advertisement, which is 30 October 2026.

Educational Qualification

Minimum essential qualification, as on the date of advertisement: MBBS from a University/institute recognized by MCI, with MCI/NMC/SMC registration, or a valid practitioner licence and enrolment in the State Register or the National Register, as the case may be.

Experience

Experience is not mandatory. Candidates having relevant work experience shall be given preference.

Ex-employees

Ex-employees of SAIL and non-SAIL ex-employees can also apply, provided they did not separate by opting for voluntary retirement. They must bring a recommendation letter signed by the Head of Medical of their respective plant or unit, and a self-certificate that they did not separate under voluntary retirement.

Salary and Benefits

The doctor will not get Non-Practicing Allowance, PF, gratuity or any benefit not mentioned in the advertisement or the offer letter. Private practice is allowed as long as it does not disrupt the assigned working hours.

Selection Process

1. Screening of documents and caste certificate.
2. Walk-in interview before an Interview Board constituted by SSP, whose decision is final and binding.
3. A screening test, if required.
4. Medical screening of the selected candidate to ascertain medical fitness, which must be cleared before joining.

Service Conditions

• Place of work: Salem Steel Plant’s main hospital / Occupational Health Service Center (OHSC), Salem.
• Initial tenure is one year, which can be extended by one year at the Company’s discretion. Engagement under the same contract cannot exceed three years.
• Working hours are a minimum of 8 hours a day for six days a week, or 48 hours a week. The doctor must also serve in emergent conditions or beyond normal hours, with no claim for extra pay.
• Performance is reviewed every year by the Head of Medical, Salem Steel Plant; the tenure can be curtailed or extended depending on performance.
• Either side can end the engagement with one month’s notice. Poor performance or absence without permission can lead to termination. The company can also terminate forthwith for prolonged medical unfitness, moral turpitude, conviction, insolvency, loss of licence to practise, misconduct or financial irregularity.
• The engagement is purely contractual and gives no right to regular appointment in Salem Steel Plant.
• All company assets must be used properly and returned at the end of the contract.

2. Fill in every item: personal details, category, addresses, qualifications from Matriculation onwards, experience, registration details and ex-employee status, then sign it.
3. Reach the HRDC Building, Salem Steel Plant on 20 November 2026 and register between 08.00 AM and 11.00 AM.
4. Submit the filled form with the documents below at the walk-in interview, held from 11.00 AM to 4.00 PM. No other mode of application will be accepted.

Carry these in original, with one set of self-attested photocopies (the Annexure-1 declaration mentions three sets of photocopies, so carrying extra copies is safer):

• Proof of date of birth – SSLC/Matriculation certificate
• All educational certificates and mark sheets from class X onwards
• Valid registration certificate issued by MCI, National Medical Council or any State Medical Council
• Experience certificate (if any)
• Photo identity proof (Voter ID, PAN Card, Aadhaar card, Driving Licence or Passport)
• Address proof
• Caste certificate
• Recommendation letter from the Head of Medical, and self-certificate on voluntary retirement (ex-employees only)
• Two recent passport size colour photographs
