Essential qualification (PGT)

Candidates need (a) and (b) below, plus (c):

1. (a) An Integrated Post Graduate Course from an NCTE-recognised institution or university in the concerned subject, with at least 50% marks in aggregate including the B.Ed. component; OR a Master Degree from a recognised institution or university with at least 50% marks in aggregate in the concerned subject.
2. (b) A B.Ed. Degree from an NCTE-recognised institution or university with at least 50% marks; OR a three-year Integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution or university with at least 50% marks; OR a four-year Integrated Degree with at least 50% marks from an NCTE-recognised institution or university, including a B.Ed. component.
3. (c) Proficiency in teaching in both Hindi and English medium.

Subject at post-graduation level

Desirable

• Experience as a TGT in the concerned subject at a recognised institution
• Experience of working in a school
• Knowledge of computer applications

Selection Process

Selection is by a walk-in interview. Original documents are checked at the interview, and the selected names go onto a panel. The school engages teachers from this panel when a need arises. Being on the panel gives no right to a regular appointment in KVS.

Service Conditions

• Contractual teachers stay engaged until a regular teacher joins or the academic session ends, whichever comes first. If their performance is not satisfactory, their service can end earlier.
• They have no claim or right to a regular appointment and are not part of the Kendriya Vidyalaya teachers’ cadre. Even when a vacancy exists, a candidate cannot claim an appointment. Engagement depends entirely on need.
• Dress code: teachers must be clean and trim and must not dress casually or informally on duty. Their dress must be neat and dignified.

Duties

Contract teachers perform all the duties of regular teachers, including:

• Teaching their subject to the standards of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and CBSE
• Checking classwork, homework, examination papers and project work on time
• Setting question papers for the tests and examinations given by the examination department
• Preparing lesson plans and keeping students’ academic records
• Preparing students for study-related activities, home activities and cultural competitions
• Escorting students to activities outside the school when needed
• Any other work the school assigns
